I encountered this caged bird in a café garden at the end of Norfolk Street. I am fully in support of the students’ rent strike. Cambridge students have joined other students across the UK in the largest rent strikes for over 40 years. They are rightly protesting at the way they have been treated, with high rents and harsh lockdown restrictions, in spite of lessons not happening or moving online. In addition students from working class backgrounds are increasingly unable to work to support themselves compounding inequality in education. Overseas students face even more severe isolation and economic difficulties. Universities are for education, not profit.
